$30 million gift sets new course for SAIT's future
David Bissett, a distinguished Calgary businessman and philanthropist, has donated $30 million to SAIT. It’s the largest gift in the institution’s history and it will support the development of a new school and programs focused on advanced digital technology.
This gift is going to accelerate industry and our economy, and set the pace for digital transformation in post-secondary education.

David Bissett is one of Calgary’s leading philanthropists.
He received his law degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1962 and attained his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1972. He and his wife Leslie relocated to Calgary in 1977 to run the western operations of a national investment firm...
From cyber security to unmanned-systems, here are a few of SAIT’s programs that use innovative technologies to future-proof students equipping them with the digital skills they need to succeed.
Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems
SAIT is a leader in the expanding industry of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) through training, education and technology. Our RPAS courses are designed to meet the TP15263 training requirements outlined by Transport Canada. Our courses reflect the changes made by Transport Canada that govern all aspects of Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) operations for all operators flying these systems. SAIT’s courses cover a wide range of training to suit your RPAS use.
Cyber Security for Control Systems
The Cyber Security for Control Systems post-diploma certificate program addresses the business risks specific to securing control systems in sectors such as drilling and well sites, power plants, power grid, water plants, manufacturing, production lines, telecommunications and hospitals. Many of these systems were previously analog-based, but are currently networked and digital, placing them at higher risk for cyber-attacks.
Medical Laboratory Technology
Learn to be an integral member of the healthcare industry and train to perform and evaluate diagnostic laboratory tests – a vital role in the treatment and prevention of disease – working in hospitals, medical or research labs and scientific supply companies. This is an intensive program that includes courses in anatomy, chemistry and analysis techniques.
